Exercise – Mental & Physical

  • Listen to music – it brings up memories & emotions. Learn new music – bonus… Dance! What’s your favorite playlist?

  • Try one of the recommended brain aerobic activities? Awareness Walking, Dancing, Headline discussions, DIY memory games, Upside-down reading, Hobbies.

  • Try brushing your teeth with the opposite hand.

  • Try a new recipe. (Bonus if it’s from one of our recommended diets!) The Brain Health Kitchen by Annie Fenn, MD comes highly recommended.

  • Video games can be fun.

  • Do you know your numbers? Blood Pressure, HDL, BMI, Cholesterol? Learn your numbers and get them under control. What’s good for your heart is good for your brain! Chat with your doctor about where your numbers should fall.

  • Protect your brain. Do you wear your Seatbelts? When biking, or skating, do you wear a Helmet?

  • Join a class. Brain Aerobics and Spiritual Fitness (double bonus score) (triple if it’s an exercise class!)

  • Mix it up – Your body and brain like variety! Rest one day a week.

  • Maybe do art! Practice consistently and add complexity weekly.

  • Can you exercise regularly? Recommended: 150 minutes of moderate, or 75 minutes of intense exercise per week + 2 sessions of strength / yoga / balance.

  • Leg muscles pump the most blood into your brain. Three or four times a week, do 10 – 15 mini-squats while you watch TV.

  • Send a silly dad joke to your family text chain.
